Changing linens

I don't change linens the way my mother did. She always changed them on March 21 or there abouts and when the linens on the beds were changed -- that is the outer linens, the spreads -- the room was given a thorough cleaning.

I finally got my summer linens on the bed this morning, but I did NOT give the room a thorough cleaning. I clean the room once a week, thoroughly, and I figure that's good enough. I do the baseboards when there is company coming, and I will have Megan scrub the bathroom floor real good, especially in the corners when I am able to use her services later this summer.

In fact, my list for her aid is growing each day. So far, I want the linoleum floors scrubbed. I can't do it any more, and while I do clean the floors around the toilets every day, and wash the kitchen floor at least once a week, more often if it needs it, and I wash the bathroom floors at least once a week, the grout part of the picture on the linoleum needs scrubbing. I "Mr. Clean eraser'd it a few months ago, and that worked well, but it sure did leave me bound up in my back and legs for days, so I'll have Megan do that this summer.

Of course, there are the "high" jobs that neither Alan nor I can do, which she did last year. And I hope she is able to help me shop a little this summer. I have things I need to get at Sam's and Pier One, etc., that I can't walk to or carry out the products I need, so I'm hoping she doesn't balk at shopping for me again this year. She's a real sweet girl, and a very good worker. Megan Curry -- that is. She's going to nursing school at UK and this summer she's got a part-time job at St. Luke's Hospital -- just under the number of hours they would have to pay her benefits. Cheap-oes.

I need to get my laundry room cleared up. I can't move in there right now. I need to get up on the step stool, which hurts me terribly to climb to the first step, but it's got to be done. Not today though. Today we're going to Amy's for Matthew's 3rd birthday party.

Matthew's life is a blur -- in more ways than one. He's a child who runs everywhere, and his energy level is so high, I can't even stand to watch him sometimes. But he's adorable. I must BLOG about him on Runnemede Remembered one of these days.

aches and pains

Today has been an especially bad day for me, pain wise. The good thing that happened today was that I finally, after almost three months, got a haircut. Boy did I need it. My hair looked like I had walked through a wind tunnel, even though I had just combed it.

I also had to pop the blister on my finger again. I'm keeping track of these "pops." This last time was over a week old. I hope that it lasts this time.

Today is also western day on one of the cable channels so Alan and I are (or have been) vegging in front of the TV watching these John Wayne movies we haven't seen before. I think since we went out west, the westerns are more enjoyable.

I had a chance to read to Rosie yesterday one of Louis L'Amour's stories. She really enjoyed it. It was fun to read to her and she listened so intently. Fun.

I made orange slushies a little while ago. You just put two tablespoons of instant vanilla pudding mix into two cups of oranage juice and about six ice-cubes. Blend that and yum! Instant orange slushie.

The Fat Lady Sings

I decided that I needed to journal and since I hate handwriting in a book, this was the best way to accomplish this task.

I'm getting near the end of my life -- not that I have a terminal disease or anything like that -- it's just that I AM 65 and according to the pundits, that means I am elderly and on my last legs.

I wish I had legs that would last. My legs are horrible. They hurt all the time. Day in and day out, night and day. It's almost intolerable at times.

The bad knees/legs causes me to not be able to do a lot of things I would like to do, like, take today for instance. I was supposed to go out to Becky's to a Home School Final Ceremony. The grandchildren all had projects they entered for ribbons in this event. Because my legs hurt so much, I cancelled.

Tomorrow, is Matthew's birthday -- he'll be three. There's a party. I have purchased his gift -- a Black and Decker toy tool set. Apparently, he's not into tools. And I got Adam's birthday gift. His birthday is in one month -- July 2. I already gave Gracie her gift -- a sticker maker -- she loved it. -- and I have purchased Toria's gift. So, I'm covered for birthday gifts until David's in late August.

I'll be back later in the day, but for now, I'm quitting.

One more thing. This has nothing to do with singing. The expression "It's not over until the fat lady sing" was made famous by Yogi Berra -- catcher extraordinaire of the Yankees. This fat lady is singing and may be singing for a while because time is running out and I know it.
